It's Muse Fusion Time! Ready? Set? Go!

Oops!  Got distracted, and forgot to close the Muse Fusion to new prompts last night.  So, we are CLOSED to new prompts now.  People (especially creators), are still welcome to comment, tell us about new creations, and share conversation.

Everyone (creators, honored patrons, and visitors alike), please introduce yourself!

Comment here with prompts for our Torn World writing, arting, and worldbuilding team--and for any new creators who want to play along! (Our guidelines are here.)

We're standing by to write and draw sneakily to your prompts, starting today (now!), running through the weekend and into next week.  Prompts will close on Monday at probably about the same time as this post, but the creating will likely continue since some of  our creators have more time on weekdays. As a prompter or a creator, you may hop in for a few moments at any point in this window of time or dive in for the duration. (I recommend taking time out for sleep and meals, however.)

Prompts: Let us know what you want to see! Do you want to know what a character's opinion on a subject is? Want to see a particular plant or animal in action? Maybe you'd like to see a scientist at work, or an athlete!  Do you want to see some of the new invasive critters that have been discussed this month in the forums?

A prompt can be specific, or general. One-word prompts are welcome, as are picture prompts, or links. Cross-over fanfiction can be requested, though not all participants may be interested in creating it. The only major restriction for prompts is that they should be appropriate to Torn World--but it's a big world, and not all of it is explored yet. You may treat this like a Q&A session though you could get your answers in fiction, artwork or poetry. Or--Hey, how about music as a prompt?

You do not need to be a member of, or familiar with, Torn World to leave some prompts. You can share your favorite flower or a mysterious artifact. Something like 'a dirty trick' or 'fuchsia finery' is plenty specific, or you can make a general theme request like 'ghosts' or 'romance.' You can also ask a specific question, like 'Does the Empire honor athletes or only scientists?' or 'Are there any myths about feet?'

Feel free to leave more than one prompt; we try to ensure that everyone gets at least one prompt answered, and that's easier if you leave us some choices.

Tips: Tips are welcome but not required. Our creators can be tipped in Torn World Credits or via their individual PayPal Buttons. If you hate PayPal, feel free to ask creators what other arrangements they are willing to accept. There is also a donation button at the bottom of the Torn World site--money donated via that button is earmarked for administrative costs and advertising.

Comments:  Comments are also welcome but not required.  Feel free to comment on each other's prompts or the WIP links or snippets we share.  We can be inspired by your comments!

Drafts: Please keep in mind that rough drafts created from our Muse Fusion will be going through a review process to maintain overall world continuity - any drafts shared with you during the Muse Fusion may be changed before being posted as canon contributions.

Chat: Also, you are welcome to join us in chat while we create, in our usual chat room -- the #tornworld channel via IRC on the starchat.net server. I will be dropping in throughout the weekend as I am able! Use the dropdown to make a noise if you join and no one says hello - sometimes we're busy creating in another window. (The chat relies on java and unfortunately does not work in Safari. Some sounds are only available through the javachat option, not IRC.)

Incentives: I'm offering 1 point of karma for every prompt left, up to 10 points per prompter! Work that makes it through the canon board already gets karma, but I'm also offering Karma for each snippet, rough sketch, or detail of a Work In Progress posted during the Muse Fusion so our fans can see what we're up to!

Questions? Let me know! I'll see if I can help with Torn World information or whatever else will help you have a productive weekend.

Come on in!  The pixels are fine.

Picture Prompts:

Title Prompts:
The Walls Come Tumbling Down
Wind of Forgotten Skies
He Said It Was the Last One
A Heart Like Melting Ice
Promise the Ocean, Deliver the Sand

Text Prompts:
A plague of ticks causes trouble for farmers.
Two women fight over the same man -- but not as a lover.
The challenges of designing tack for a newly domesticated type of livestock.
Composing music for a special occasion.
A fire in a licensing office.

The Hues of His Days

This poem started with the title prompt "Wind of Forgotten Skies" but it mutated:

The Hues of His Days
a Torn World poem
by Deirdre M. Murphy

Deep blue skies, delicate green seedlings
Crops pushing upward through brown dirt
Tended by golden bees and orange butterflies

Rijorl remembers tendays rowing
Between endless grey skies and gray water
Hi, I'm Deirdre Murphy. I started here by entering contests and I've been writing (and arting) about and in Torn World since before the website opened to the public. I'm always excited to see who shows up for the muse fusions and I'd love to have some new people leaving prompts or responding to them!

Now, here's a few prompts to get people started.

The Dark of the Moons
Striped and Spotted Horses
spiders everywhere
The Biggest Sea Monster and the Fastest Ship
she just goes on and on and on
the most unsuitable fabric
bells, bells everywhere

From your prompt about horses, I got "Patterns in the Grass," posted as the freebie for this session.

The Dark of the Moons

May is Sea Monster month! So here's a link to the sea monster introduction article: http://www.tornworld.net/settingpageview.php?id=114

  • Something featuring the Weed-Eater, who while a sea monster, is not a predator. http://www.tornworld.net/settingpageview.php?id=123

  • Something from the POV of a sea monster

  • A drill barnacle grows on something unexpected

  • A silly children's rhyme listing the various sea monsters

  • Margaa is one of the Empire explorers in the North. I'd like to see her POV in something.

  • Lilies (or other spring flowers)
  • Flowers and Monsters
  • Story

"The Inappropriate But Useful Disposal of Lettuce" features a young boy, a weed-eater, and some unwanted salad.

    525 words, $5.25 or 5 TW Credits

    Re: Story

    What a wonderful title!

    Re: Story

It's actually taken from the latter part of the story. I have a fondness for long ridiculous titles in certain types of fiction.
Ooh...I'd like to do a sketch from the perspective of a sea monster! I'll have to re-read some articles and work on that for Sea Monster month...

P.S. Do you have some prompts for us?

    wedding customs

    children's stories

allergies (a northerner's first encounter with southern flora, maybe?)

a sea 'monster' who turns out to be friendly

    Really? Muse Fusion again?

    Just came by by chance.
Maybe a note at the forums would be nice?

    little wars
    The Empire, the conqueror
    A real Mayaloi
    Mruuna purist
    Raalyan purist
    Crystal desert

    Re: Really? Muse Fusion again?

:) Deirdre added it to the forum!

I'm snagging the prompt: 'Little Wars'. Thanks!

    Re: Really? Muse Fusion again?

I fizzled on Little Wars after about 75 words. I may revisit it, but in the meantime, I switched media and have done a sketch of a Raalyan purist. As soon as I have a chance to scan, I will post it for you!

    Re: Really? Muse Fusion again?

Raalyan purist - with bonus skycat:

    Re: Really? Muse Fusion again?

That´s how I imagined them! What a happy fellow!
And I really like the mangrove here.

Torn World Muse Fusion and newly posted art...

User ellenmillion referenced to your post from Torn World Muse Fusion and newly posted art... saying: [...] The Torn World Muse Fusion is open! http://torn-world.livejournal.com/106505.html [...]

Re: Torn World Muse Fusion and newly posted art...

Wonderful! I like that picture a lot!

Re: Torn World Muse Fusion and newly posted art...

    Thanks! :)

I would like to see more about a southern funeral. How it is dealt with, expressed.

    It is always sunny
A broken bone spoils the day
    Snowy fighting
    Using Sap

    Bug prompties:
    Fashionable wing cases
    Crunchy snacks
    Sticky eggs
    Grey clouds (of bugs!)

    Re: Prompts

I did a sketch for TOothache last month that I didn't have a chance to scan until now!

    Re: Prompts

    Cool! (Poor guy!)
