Muse Fusion - go!

Comment here with prompts for our Torn World writing, arting, and creating team!

We're standing by to write and draw furiously to your prompts, starting today at noon (now!), running through the weekend and closing on Tuesday morning (Alaska time). As a prompter or a creator, you may hop in for a few moments in this window of time, or throw yourself all-out at the Fusion for the full time!
We're closed now - thanks for playing!!

Prompts: Let us know what you want to see! Do you want to know what a character's opinion on a subject is? Want to see a particular plant or animal in action? Maybe you'd like to hear a dialogue between two characters on a particular topic! A prompt can be specific, or general. One-word prompts are welcome, as are picture prompts, or links. Cross-over fanfiction can be requested, though not all participants may be interested in creating it. The only major restriction for prompts is that they should be appropriate to Torn World. You may treat it like a Q&A session - where you get your answers in fiction, artwork and poetry instead of just a boring answer. (Though you may get a straight answer, also, and you may get links to stories or articles that already address your question.)

Feel free to leave more than one prompt; we try to ensure that everyone gets one prompt answered, and that's easier if you leave us some choices.

Drafts: Please keep in mind that rough drafts created from our Muse Fusion will be going through a review process to maintain overall world continuity - any drafts shared with you during the Muse Fusion may be changed before being posted as canon contributions.

Chat: Also, you are welcome to join us in chat while we create, in this chat room, here. (Or, join the #tornworld channel via IRC on the starchat.net server) I will be dropping in throughout the weekend as I am able! Use the dropdown to make a noise if you join and no one says hello - sometimes we're busy creating in another window... (The chat relies on java and unfortunately does not work in Safari. Sounds are only available through the javachat option, not IRC.)

Incentives: This month, we're trying a few incentives to increase participation! I will be giving out the leftover ACEOs from our Anthology pre-order promotion. 10 cards will be randomly awarded to prompters, sponsors will receive an ACEO per sponsored piece, one will go to anyone who finishes work for the fusion (completed and submitted to the canon board by the following Friday), and one will be awarded to the most active member (wordcount will be a contributing factor, but comments at the muse fusion, prompts and other activity will also count!).

Ready? Set? Create!

Re: Prompts

I'm going to grab my sketchbook and tackle some beads from your photos. :)

I'd love to see a story or poem for this piece: http://www.tornworld.net/artpageview.php?id=29

A Wingback Marsh Deer (art, story or poem?): http://www.tornworld.net/settingpageview.php?id=58

Do they ever let tourists visit the Pearly Towers? http://www.tornworld.net/settingpageview.php?id=12
(alternately, I'd like to see one of the wedding rituals!)

Does being a priestess mean Kunabei misses out on teenage romance?

Draiden losing a bet on purpose...

Re: Prompts

I really like the idea of a tourist park at the Pearly Towers; the article does mention tourists. They could have a little fenced-off area for people to wander through, and a factory using the slugs to pearl-coat souvenirs (tours available). Then there would be a hotel or two in a strip of restaurants, shops, etc.

I was thinking it would be fun to send Diren and family there, since she has small children and their family could easily get travel clearance. But how the heck would anyone GET there? I look on the map: there are towns marked, but no rails or roads anywhere nearby, and no seacoast access either.
And one more prompt - I'd love to see a few games developed for the south.... either team sports, or a card or board game of some kind.
It would be fun to see a southern tarot set based on what they do, like the one of stamps, the butterfly, the three of time crystals and so on.

The Tiniest Monster
An Unusual Use for Feathers
Cogs and Chains
Steam Powered
Summer By the Sea

Re: Prompts

From your prompt I got the poem "Colorless" which is about ghosts/anomalies. It's posted as the freebie for this Muse Fusion:

Hello all. Back with my usual list! Hope you enjoy.

Question Titles:
Are all raindrops equal?
Why does it snow?
Why did it turn blue?
When will they be back?

Title Prompts:
The day the sky cried.
Forgotten fish.
A block of salt.
Cloudy faces.
I burnt the bottom.
Travel snacks.
Red glass, green glass.
Jewellery for beginners.
Broken support.
Snapped rein.
The most ornate saddle.
Bitter herbs.
The wrong stamp!
Silver thread.

Re: Prompts!

I have an idea for "Why Does it Snow?" :)

I'm not sure this is how this is supposed to go...

I'd love to see Akaalekirth's story continued.

Or more about the Rainbow Rainforest in general.

You just type in something you'd like to see, the way you did. And then somebody writes or draws something inspired by it, such as...

"Hide Away" is a poem written in rhymed, metered quatrains. It warns the people of the rainforest tribes to hide when outsiders draw near.
16 lines, Buy It Now = $5 or 5 Torn World credits
I'd like to second the request for Wingback Marsh Deer.

Interactions between licensed and unlicensed hunters/gatherers in the rainbow rainforest, or another protected/restricted "wilderness" area.

Checking gear for unwelcome hitchhikers when traveling into/out of a delicate or dangerous area.

Building bridges.

Keeping one's hands busy.

Coming home from time away and discovering one no longer fits into the local patterns.

Finding a teacher for an esoteric topic or skill set.

"The Ibabesh Bridge" is a poem of five rhyming verses, talking about different types of bridges and how Ibabesh is the best.

35 lines, Buy It Now = $7.50 or 8 Torn World credits

Per request

I am posting a link to an illustration that I started a few muse Fusions ago, but finished during this one, the prompt: Northerner with a lap full of baby silk-hares. :) http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=148809325194977&set=a.148809135194996.38198.141951095880800&type=1&theater

Re: Per request

Yay! It's great to see it done.

I'm still writing here, and about to start a new piece--have any prompts to add to the mix?

While the border is closed, there's no way to navigate from shard to shard; after they're open, there's no need for special equipment.

However, where borders are closed, some special equipment to identify the borders so they don't sail into certain death would be very handy...I'll have to think on that.
graphic design question: what does a license actually look like? (if someone has posted examples, please link!)
They're large card sized, more or less (there may be an exact size in the forums somewhere, but I'm not finding it quickly), printed with a press on good paper in two colors of secret-formula ink. Paper Butterflies: Proof has a description of the printing and proofing process.

People usually carry their collection of licenses in a pouch. The illustration of Denel and Jerumal for City of Lights Pt 1: Ithei shows their license pouches, for an idea of size.
